Text 13:
My dear heroic King, please keep yourself always equipoised and treat people equally, whether they are greater than you, in the intermediate stage or lower than you. Do not be disturbed by temporary distress or happiness. Fully control your mind and senses. In this transcendental position, try to execute your duty as king in whatever condition of life you may be posted by My arrangement, for your only duty here is to give protection to the citizens of your kingdom.

Apurva Prabhu

For those who don’t know Apurva, in May of 1971 he visited his brother, Yogendra, at the Brooklyn Henry Street temple during his summer break from the University of Denver. After staying in the brahmacari asrama for about 10 days, he went home to Tappan, New York, to dispose of his possessions and tie up loose ends. He quickly returned to join the asrama.
For the first six months he was engaged in the kitchen, mainly washing and assisting cooks, as well as going on Harinama sankirtana every day. Then he would go on travelling book distribution for about three months at a time. When returning to the temple, he would again serve in the kitchen.

For three months in 1975 he served in Vrindavana, India, as head cook for the installation of the Deities. Upon returning to the United States, he joined the Radha Damodara Party and served as a pujari and cook on the bus and went out on book distribution when time permitted.

In October of 1976 he had an arranged marriage with Kamalini-devi dasi. They have two grown children, Gaurangi-priya and Amala-harinama, as well as four grandchildren. They presently reside in Hillsborough, NC, near the New Goloka temple.

Apurva is still passionate about cooking for Krsna and is working on compiling a quantity cookbook, focusing on early ISKCON feast recipes.
